“Thunder Box” Standard Design Passenger Car.
Prototype: German Federal Railroad (DB) type Bi 29. 2nd class.
Model: Length over the buffers 63 mm / 2-1/2″.
Fun Fact: These two-axle standard design passenger cars originally had wood roofs and interior walls. Later they were built entirely of metal as the type 29. By today’s standards these German Federal Railroad (DB) cars were very loud and they rumbled a great deal. For this reason they were nicknamed “Donnerbüchsen” or “Thunder Boxes”.
