The company, founded by Jakob Rilling in 1865, initially produced various grinders in Dusslingen (Baden-Württemberg), such as grain or large coffee grinders. In 1928 the company was granted a patent for the type HM hay mower under the company name IRUS. From this point on, the company IRUS went on very quickly and soon it was ahead in the field of motor device construction. In the 1950s, robust single-axle vehicles with reversible spars were added to the U series. In 1968 the world’s first small mower »IRUS Micky« appeared. Its success was so great that the 10,000 small mowers left the factory on June 2, 1969.
