The “Arlberg Express” was one of those trains whose introduction dates back to the era of transcontinental luxury trains. Unlike its siblings, the Orient and Ostend Express, it travelled through the whole of Austria in a west-east direction.
\nOver time, the train became more and more of an international train with through coaches. In addition to the Vienna \u2013 Paris train, the train ran numerous through coaches, for instance to the Salzkammergut region and from there to Salzburg, where these were then removed from the train. There were also through coaches from Vienna to Carinthia and East Tyrol, which were transported onwards from Schwarzach-St. Veit on the Tauern Pass Railway.
